IVR Turkey

by admin on November 29, 2016

The IVR’s 28th World Conference takes place in Istanbul from 16th until 21st July 2017. Turkey’s current political situation is for many scholars a reason to worry about the possibility to speak freely during the conference. The Turkish member of the Executive Committee of the IVR, however, encourages the members of the IVR to participate in the conference, as a sign for support to the Turkish scholars who are put under pressure by the current regime. Following up on this encouragement, the Executive Committee has decided to dedicate a special panel to academic freedom and freedom of speech (an ‘EC’ or ‘President’s’ panel).

Hans Lindahl, Chair of the Netherlands Association for Philosophy of Law, and Sanne Taekema, Member of the Executive Committee of the IVR, support this initiative and participation in the conference. In addition, they will ask the Executive Committe to undertake action if Turkish colleagues are prosecuted  or in another way put under pressure because of their participation in the world conference.
