AUC’s profile

• Tutoring at AUC is an integrated element of the teaching and learning model: tutors have a central role in the students’ learning experience and choices therein and are also themselves involved in teaching.

The Head of Studies Academic Core is responsible for
• Assuring that AUC’s mission of “Excellence and Diversity in a Global City” is realized for each individual student;
• The development, implementation and management of the AUC curriculum in the Academic Core, the cross-disciplinary cooperation within the team of Heads of Studies, Director of Education and Senior Tutor in order to create together an engaging and high quality and broad liberal arts and sciences programme at Bachelor level;
• The coordination and HR management of a team of teachers from disciplines within the Academic Core, providing guidance for quality in their teaching and ensuring a coherent curriculum both in terms of academic focus and quality;
• The implementation of course evaluations, semester evaluations, etc, and the provision of suggestions for improvement on the basis of this aggregate data;
• The development and maintenance of relations with external stakeholders, including relevant (inter)national communities in scientific, social, cultural, and business circles.

The Head of Studies Academic Core reports to the Director of Education.
Candidates
• Are committed to developing excellence and diversity in teaching and learning;
• Hold a PhD in one of the disciplines in the Academic Core, combined with a particular interest for interdisciplinary approaches to teaching (and research);
• Have experience in managing a study programme and its staff;
• Have a strong international profile and network and a solid understanding of (and preferably experience with) liberal arts and science education;
• Have a (near) native level in English and preferably fluency in Dutch and/or one other language;
• Are willing to engage with students and to join a multidisciplinary and international team
• Are able to reach out to external stakeholders and constituencies to enrich the curriculum and the student learning experience.

We are offering
A part-time (0.4 fte) appointment, which is preferably combined with teaching tasks and/or quality assurance tasks in AUC with the possibility to extend the AUC appointment up to 1.0 fte (with a
minimal appointment of 0.8 fte). Depending on academic record and experience, salary for the position is maximum is €5.608-, gross per month (salary scale 13), based on full-time employment.
