Spring Meeting 2014

The VWR Spring Meeting will take place on 20th June 2014 at the conference center ‘De Veranda’, Amsterdam. The keynote speaker is  Kristen Rundle. Rundle is a senior lecturer at the UNSW Law in Australia since 2013 and previously worked as a lecturer at the Law department of the  London School of Economics and Political Science and. Her most recent book is Forms Liberate: Reclaiming the Jurisprudence of Lon L. Fuller (Hart Publishing, 2012) which was awarded with the second prize in the Society of Legal Scholars Birks Prize for Outstanding Legal Scholarship 2012.

At the occasion of the VWR Spring Meeting 2014, Rundle has prepared a paper entitled ‘Legal subjects and juridical persons: Developing ‘bottom-up’ jurisprudence through Fuller and Arendt’. In this paper she reads together Arendt and Fuller on the relationship between the juridical person as a responsible agent and law’s institutional framework. While representing different traditions, Arendt and Fuller, in Rundle’s view, are proponents of the same kind of theory of law. According to Rundle, Arendt and Fuller offer us what she calls the building blocks of a ‘bottom-up’ jurisprudence that stands to challenge the source-based accounts of law.

Rundle’s paper will be discussed by four commentators: Thomas Mertens (Radboud University Nijmegen), Wouter Veraart (VU University Amsterdam), Pauline Westerman  (University of Groningen) en Mike Wilkinson (London School of Economics).

Prior to the VWR Spring Meeting the annual general meeting of members will be take place between 11.30h-12.30h in 2a-45 at the Faculty of Law, Free University Amsterdam, which is on walking distance from the venue of the VWR Spring Meeting. Lunch will provided to the members present.
